Mallikarjun Kharge Inaugurates 23rd National Convention of Building Construction Forest & Wood Workers

Union Minister for Labour & Employment, Sh. Mallikarjuna Kharge has called upon the State Governments to ensure proper implementation of schemes launched for the Building and construction workers in their states. Shri Kharge was inaugurating the 23rd The National Convention of Indian National Building Construction Forest and Wood Workers Federation here in New Delhi today. The Minister said Labour being in the concurrent list the responsibility of implementation part rests with the state Governments and hence it necessitates cooperation on all counts. He said government is committed to redress the workers problems amicably.

Shri Kharge said it is the need of hour that proper awareness on the rights of Building and Construction workers be generated and steps be taken to protect their just demands.

The Minister said as per the NSSO survey there are nearly 25.71 million workers engaged in the Building and Construction related works of them only about 75 lakh workers have been registered so far. He said the State Governments have collected approximatelyRs.5609 crore as taxes and of this only Rs. 770 crore have been spent on the welfare schemes meant for the workers.

The other speakers included Union Minister of Statistics and Programme Implementation Shri Srikant Jena, Union Minister of Development of North East Region Shri Pawan Singh Ghatowar and Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Processing Shri Harish Rawat.

Indian National Building Construction Forest and Wood Workers Federation INBCWF) is a part of The Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) and is affiliated with BWI (Geneva).
