Andy Murray makes history with first grand slam title:

It had been 76 years since a British man won a Grand Slam singles championship Ending a nation’s long drought Andy Murray won the US Open 2012 beating  Novak Djokovic 7-6 (10), 7-5, 2-6, 3-6, 6-2. "I cried a little bit on the court," said Murray, after becoming the first man to bring a Grand Slam trophy to Britain since Fred Perry did it. The 25-year-old also became the first man in history to win Olympic singles gold and the US Open in the same year.

Serena Williams wins 2012 U.S. Open:

Serena beat top-ranked Victoria Azarenka, 6-2, 2-6, 7-5, Sunday night for her fourth championship at Flushing Meadows and 15th Grand Slam title overall.
‘‘I honestly can’t believe I won,’’ Williams said during the trophy presentation after the 2-hour-18-minute match. ‘‘I really was preparing my runner-up speech, because I thought, ‘Man, she’s playing so great,’ I’m really shocked.’’ Williams(31) is the first 30 year old woman to win the US Open since Martina Navratilova in 1987.She won her very first major championship at age 17 at the 1999 US Open.
 

Bob and Mike Bryan lifted a record-equalling 12th Grand Slam doubles title:
Bob and Mike Bryan raised a record-equalling 12th Grand Slam men's doubles title with victory over Leander Paes and Radek Stepanek at the US Open. The second-seeded American brothers defeated Leander Paes and Radek  Stepanek 6-3, 6-4 in the US Open final.
The victory gave the Bryan twins their 12th Grand Slam title, the most by any team in the Open era, which began in 1968. The Bryans tied Tony Roche and John Newcombe of Australia, who won 12 titles between 1965 and 1976. Paes and Stepanek didn't manage one break point in the final, where their 22 unforced errors to just six proved decisive.
"It's unbelievable," said Mike Bryan. "It's not going to sink in for a long time. We're just having fun. "These guys always bring magic to the court," said 39-year-old Paes. "But we put it on the line today and we will come back and keep doing it."Stepanek admitted the Bryans were worthy winners.
