Renowned Musician Madhuri Chattopadhyay Died

Renowned musician Madhuri Chattopadhyay died on 19 October 2013. She breathed her last at her Kolkata residence after suffering for a prolonged period. She was 73. Apart from film songs she had innumerable records. She was from West Bengal. She contributed immensely in the field of Bangla music.
Madhuri sang a few songs for Salil Chowdhury, and each one of them was a masterpiece. Songs such as Nijere haraaye khunji and Oi je sabuj bono bithika were unforgettable. Madhuri had an unique voice with quite a range. Salil composed 'Oi je sabuj bono bithika' which spans two-and-half octaves and uses fairly tricky jumps from one note to the other. Madhuri hits the notes without any flaw.
Music lovers will immediately recognise a glimpse of Beethoven's 6th Symphony (Pastoral) in the interlude of oi je sobuj bono beethika. In fact, Madhuri has recently re-recorded some of her songs from that golden period.
Usha Mangeshkar had also done recording of 4 songs of Madhuri in the '80s for the Megaphone company.
