Abdul Basit appointed high commissioner of Pakistan to India

Pakistan appointed Abdul Basit as Pakistan’s high commissioner to India on 17 February 2014. He will replace Salman Bashir. Salman Bashir relinquishes charge of office on 28 February 2014. Basit will take charge of office in March 2014.  He is currently working as ambassador to Germany. From May 2012, he was representing Pakistan in Berlin.
Basit had joined the Foreign Service in 1982. He had held various assignments in Pakistan missions abroad and at the headquarters, including as the foreign office spokesperson. He had previously served at Pakistan’s missions in Moscow, New York, Sana’a, Geneva and London. The ambassadors of Commonwealth countries are designated as High Commissioner.
